RIP Just Girlz

It's hard to believe Just Girlz came out two years ago.
The news article.
An interview about the development of the line.
Unfortunately, it didn't do well and was discontinued. I miss the well made Chicas a la Moda dolls that had very pretty facial screening.

Mitchie and Shane single dolls

More $3 for-the-fashion dolls. The earrings stained the doll, though. She can keep them. The mic stand doesn't attach to the base at all... sigh.

Kari Mitchell fashions

I think these sets are new this year. I didn't buy any yet, I think they're overpriced for clone-quality sets.

Elsewhere, people have found singles:

Camp Rock Mitchie and Shane

I bought this set for the great clothes. I wish Jakks made better dolls, because they have already outdone all the playline Barbie fashions.

Troy and Gabriella

Troy's suit is the most offensively cheap fashion I've ever seen from Mattel. They didn't hem the lapel or tie. They just fused the raw edges. He also has loops of hair sticking out of his part.

Prom Date Zeke and Sharpay

I don't know or care for anything about High School Musical, but Mattel does make the dolls with better heads and faces than the current Barbie line. At $5 a pair, I went ahead and bought a few sets for the heads.

Even the dolls I cherry-picked have paint problems that were not obvious in the store. Sadly, $5 is about what the pairs are worth, if that. I've seen clone dolls with better quality clothing.

Wiggles 2

I love my kitten. She brightens up every day.

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

The reason I don't have as much doll time anymore.

Little Miss Wiggles. I caught her back in August. Nobody knows where she came from. My aunt fed her cats one morning, and there she was.

She was a tiny, skinny kitten with a bot fly maggot eating a hole in her neck. Now she is a big, strong girl.

This is her at two pounds, now she's over five.

Rebelde

I don't know where this set got off to.

I feel guilty, because I'm always wanting more non-blonde Kens. A series came out with two, and I bought the blonde one instead.

He looks more determined that the other two.

He would be nice to reroot, but I'm way too lazy.

How to tell a reproduction head from an original

There are people who try to pass off repro heads as minty originals. Don't fall for the scam.

Here is a shabby vintage head next to All That Jazz reproduction.

However, the easiest way to tell is to look at it from the side.

The junction with the neck is smooth on the original. The reproduction head has a thick plastic lip that goes around the neck.

Dollstown Estella Boy Progress

About halfway finished. He's more lovely than I ever expected.

Dollcatch Jade

I'm currently working on Jade. The extreme asymmetry of the eyes is making it very hard to do eyebrows.

Fashion Fever Teresa

I miss the diversity of the old Fashion Fever dolls. Here is a nice Teresa.

At home at last

Dollcatch Stella

The body and head are very tiny.

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

I'll re-start this stupid blog.

I just bought a Kenmore serger.

Hopefully I can sew now. The biggest deterrent to my sewing has been fraying. I don't want to spend all day sewing a doll outfit and then the stupid thing falls apart.
