So, I recently purchased my first "collector" Barbie since what looks like December 2013.  I quit because the quality just wasn't there anymore.  I picked up this one just for the dress, hoping to sell it and recoup a bit of the money.  I picked the only one in the store without 0_o eyes, and didn't realize until I had completely unboxed it that there was a line etched across the plastic of the forehead.  I sold it off for a just a few bucks just to get it out of my sight.

At least the dress is gorgeous!  It reminds me of the swimsuit/bodice fabric of one of the Jewel Secrets fashions I had as a kid.

I won't learn my lesson, and so I keep buying more dolls.  It just takes a while to update my blog, my only internet connection is a cell phone.

2013 Birthday Wishes Barbie

 She's my first quarter BC club purchase.  I almost passed on signing up this year, but I do want some more of the university cheer leader dolls.  I grabbed her because I like the doll and the dress, however, the dress is a bit disappointing in person.  The scalloped trim on the bodice is the bottom portion of a larger piece of lace, that was crudely sliced off and applied with the raw edge sticking up. It was only added to the front after the dress was fully constructed, so where the ends should be tucked into the side seam, it's just hanging out.  The other materials are OK, I may pluck the lace off.

But enough about the dress, the doll is adorable.  The eyes aren't quite as big as the '90s era dolls, but they're the biggest eyes I've seen on the modern style Mackie faces.  The promo photos show them as blue, but they're a light teal green.

I haven't opened the box yet, it's one of those smaller, lightweight boxes, like the 2012 Holiday doll has.

Couture Barbie Angel #2

This wasn't a doll I was planning on buying. When they came out, I saw three in person, and all had very empty, dazed expressions. I came across a fresh pile at Big Lots, and picked a good one.  I like her for $15, but can't believe Mattel originally priced her higher than the holiday dolls, that usually have more complex dresses and embroidery.

The selling point for me is the eye color.  The irises are light blue, with a brown outline instead of the usual black one.  The colors are pale and a bit muted, but still glamorous.  The right eye has two more eyelashes than the left, an interesting intentional asymmetry.  It's a really beautiful doll, I'm surprised she ended up at $15.

Rush of Rose Gold Barbie

I really hate buying dolls without seeing real pictures of them first. It's always a big gamble. In this case, I like everything about this doll, except the red line under her eyeball. It's really red, and it's all I can see when I look at her face. The dress is made of my least favorite fabric ever.  She would be beautiful to me otherwise.

I wasn't sure what to do with her, but sometime next month I have to get two back teeth and at least two wisdom teeth extracted, and the bills mean she's headed for eBay ASAP. She's not the only one, either.

Barbie Basics Denim #04 Goddess

I'm glad I could find this girl, but the ring around the iris is damaged on the left eye. It's not too bad, hopefully I can fix it if I ever get my act together. It's still the least wonky of all I saw, and I didn't want to pass her up. She reminds me of the Cali Girls. I love the sea green eyes next to the milky red hair.

Barbie Basics Denim Model #14

I went to Big Lots last week, because of a toys sale for card members. I wasn't looking for her, but found a Louboutin Basic with nice eyes. Most of them have heavily painted irises that cover or extend beyond the gray lower eyelid. I don't like that, it looks flat and fish-eyed to me.

I think it was a great purchase for $9 and tax.
